Anyone get treatment for diabetic neuropathy?

Any new treatments? My sister has severe neuropathy in her feet and she is in agony. It is just awful. She is trying to get a surgery for it to restore nerves, but the hospital may not take her insurance. Anything that worked for you?

They gave me gabapentin for mine. I cannot tell if it helps, and was eventually told "take as needed." So I stopped entirely. The list of side effects bothered me and I sometimes wondered if I had those, too.

I was referred to a neurologist long ago, but am not sure if it was due to a CAT scan that detected tiny strokes, or my neuropathy. I should see one but have been so focused on other maladies. One thing at a time.

I was told getting my sugars under control would help. I am and it seems to be helping.

This month I see an eye doctor for diabetic retinopathy. Blood vessels there get leaky due to high sugars, and the eye cannot clear some things which build up. Or something like that.

I then see my gastroenterologist to check if his therapy is working. I had a colonoscopy last year due to a positive Cologuard test. There was no cancer, just inflammation. I was put on pills, and three months later they tested my blood for certain antibodies.

Then the doc wanted me to take the same medicine rectally as well. So much fun! 馃檮 These enemas sometimes feel like they are working, but they cause dehydration and burning at times, and the only remedy is to drink a lot of water, and sit on the toilet and empty things out my other end. But the treatment ends soon. I visit end of the month to be anal probed again.
