So I've kept away from the entire Palestine / Israel conflict all together and I'm very ignorant on the topic.

I'm reading about thousands of people be it students and general public setting up camps and all over Canada and the United States of America to protest what?

Is this not a conflict between two groups over seas? Why are people protesting in the west ?

Why doesn't all these people go there and make a difference?

Why protest in the west? To me, someone who's completely ignorant to all this it seems like these people want the miliaries of the west to engage in combat over something that has nothing to do with them?

Why should we the west be getting involved?

Please only respectful comments and common sense explanations with obvious benefits explained to why we should be getting involved.
Most people don't have the means to go there and destroy the missiles. But changing the minds of politicians to stop supplying weapons to brutally murder civilians with is achievable.

And it does affect everyone on earth. Turning a blind eye (or even contributing) to a genocide sets a dangerous precedent. It's not impossible to happen in the USA as well, and if you become the target, you don't want the world to remember it's fine to ignore it if it's far away.
@NerdyPotato has this not been going on for an insane amount of time though?

Those two group trying to kill one another? It's literally the one part of the world that spilled more blood for longer then any other conflict in history?

Weapons trades have been happening for ever.

Why don't the protestors then setup camp out front military facilities and whatever leaders who are supplying weapons for genocide specifically?

Maybe the citizens should also setup protests to fight the leaders who don't do anything about the wild drug epidemic in the west. Killing millions of people silently for generations.

All good thoughts but we all know it's never going to stop with protests it's only fueling civil unrest on an already unstable time in the west.
@Teggy Israel's displacement and oppression of Palestinians has been happening for nearly 80 years indeed, but the scale and severity was unseen until October 7th.

It will be difficult to physically stop weapon factories, but inconveniencing investors who finance the war is a good second option to make a direct impact.

People are fighting against the drug epidemic and other issues too. One doesn't exclude the other. But the instability of the West is all the more reason to not normalize genocide. We may be closer to one here than most people realize.

You did a good thing to stay away from this conflict so far! Saved your time 😏
You claim to be ignorant, but you are giving an anti protestor response on every comment. 😊
I’ll try to answer just one question you have asked. “Why should we the west be getting involved?” The hard fact is that the US has been involved in Middle East politics and war from the time I have been reading the news and perhaps more. They fund it. They gain by controlling Oil supplies and prices. They sell weapons and earn millions from wars in this disturbed region. They are involved in toppling governments, taking sides in wars between neighbours, leading NATO nations and most others in forcing economic sanctions on Middle East nations that do not bend their knees, and unilaterally destroying nations because it has a hunch that they have weapons of mass destruction which is ultimately proven false after the nation is ruined and the head toppled, trailed and hanged.
It should be the moral duty of any American with a conscience to protest when America is again funding a genocide in the Middle East.

Of course you are excused since you said you are ignorant. 😀
@WandererTony let's not beat around the bush. America is pretty much responsible for more wars and conflicts then any other nation in the world 🤷🏼‍♂️

Exactly. Why are they protesting here. Go over there and do it. Also why in a college campus? Why not at google or an office building?? Makes no sense. People are so starved for attention. If people are that concerned, hop a plane over there and do something g about it.
@losthorizons I don't understand why protest here at all though. What will it do for anyone here?
sladejr · 56-60, M
@Teggy mutants scream for attention like 3 year olds. Then you aim a camera at them and they open cheap umbrellas to hide from attention.

Myself and a buddy are going to NYU later with Zippo lighters to spark those umbrellas when open

people claim they arent antisemite... but still they protest a relatively small scale conflict of a country defending itself against terrorist attacks that are supported by states who openly ask to destroy that country and kill all inhabitant.

if people really cared there are a dozen worse conflicts going on around the world where people suffer worse... but hey thats not the jews so noone cares.

also its the hamas that started this and they are the one blocking a cease fire aswell... so yeah israel deserves all the support we can give them against this murder cult
@NerdyPotato @hippyjoe1955 is there a nation who Isn't responsible for mass murder? Canada, USA, Russia, UK etc. All these nations have a very dirty past and present involvement in killing people around the world or being a part of doing so.

Interesting topic to really dive deep into.
@Teggy that's true. Most countries have been guilty of colonialization, have had a corrupt government or been killing disabled people at some time. But when we realized how wrong that was, we stepped up against it and we should do that now as well.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Teggy have done and are doing are very different. I can't change what has been. I can stop what is being done
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Despite the self-righteousness of the protesters, the basis seems to be born in antisemitism -- the protesters support a terrorist group and, while Israel has over-reacted terribly, those protestors ignore much worse war crimes and crimes against humanity all around the world because those crimes are NOT related to Jews. Just one example: I don't see any college campus being "occupied" but protestors to Putin's crime in Ukraine.
@ChipmunkErnie again. Why not protest where the conflicts are? What is the point of doing it here creating more civil unrest at home where it ultimately going to help no one but create problems long term in the west within?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Teggy Because protesting where the conflicts are would mean the protesters putting themselves in harm's way. It's much safer to stay home and tell the rest of the world what to do. ;)

Don’t start it man. I once asked some question and people were too serious
@mysteryespresso still doesn't explain why people setup camps here 🤷🏼‍♂️ how's that do anything
@Teggy man they have no reason. They block roads and highways to support Palestine thousands of kilometers away
sladejr · 56-60, M
@mysteryespresso

They identify with the world's foulest savages
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Israel is committing genocide.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Teggy were you around for the Vietnam protests
@hippyjoe1955 I was not
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Teggy when it became evident that the USA was engaged in mass murder the students protested. It took years before the masd murder was a known fact but once it became known.... Israel has been slaughtering Palestinians since 1948. Only now is it being shown to be a Paris state.
Just like before. Nobody really knew. Nobody knows. You're so busy.

I think it's more about raising awareness of the situation by any means possible. I think that's the intention behind most.
@V00doo @ChipmunkErnie if you live in the west or where ever outside of the conflict area. That means they got out to get away. Why now bring other nations in a conflict that the place they came.from as getting involved.

They got away from the mess only to bring it to where they moved to?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Teggy Most of the protesters, from what I've seen, did not come from the areas of conflict, but were born here.
@ChipmunkErnie I've been reading it appears to be an even split between generational Americans and people from those areas. Interesting stuff to say the least
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Sadly reality is exactly the opposite. Christian/Muslim/Jewish Palestine was invaded by Zionists who are only there for power and money. Most of the Christians fled and the Jews were co-opted into the Zionist movement leaving the Muslims to defend their homes. The Zionists have since pushed the Palestinians into a tiny stretch of land called Gaza. There the Palestinians live as prisoners in their own homes and are often shot and killed by Zionists who think the Palestinians are somehow less than human. Kind of like the Nazis felt about Jews. BTW I hope you noticed I differentiate between Jews and Zionists. Many many Jews do not support Zionism. Many Christians do support Zionism.
MethDozer · M
Because our nations are supporting Israel financially and worth weapons and that's what is being f protested in the West. You do what can where you are at.
