I want to be the kind of person who eats half a grapefruit for breakfast and runs every morning but I also want to be happy

And alive. I'm afraid my body would go into shock and suffer..I don't know what. But. Can't be good.

While reading the information about one of my medicines, it said not to eat grapefruit. But it did not say why.

Creepy.

What medications should not be taken with grapefruit?

Some statin drugs to lower cholesterol, such as Zocor (simvastatin) and Lipitor (atorvastatin). Some drugs that treat high blood pressure, such as Procardia and Adalat CC (both nifedipine). Some organ-transplant rejection drugs, such as Neoral and Sandimmune capsule or oral solution (both cyclosporine.

I am on atorvastatin!

Grapefruit contains a compound known as furanocoumarin, which deactivates an enzyme that breaks down certain drugs, including statins. As a result, the drug concentration increases dramatically. This can cause a rare but serious condition that causes breakdown of muscle tissue and can lead to kidney failure.

@JoyfulSilence yeah, no kidding. I believe with some other meds citrus fruits combined can make you more photosensitive and thus more prone to sunburn. I was surprised about the kidneys and enzyme breakdown thing.

Yeah, I am taking a med now and they say avoid the sun.

To hell with that! It is spring! I am eating lunch outside. Also, I am only on the med a month, so how much harm can it do in a month?
