Draconian Arizona anti-abortion law from 1864 repealed

The Arizona Supreme Court shocked the nation several weeks ago by upholding a Civil-war era law that prohibited abortion except to save the mother's life. The Arizona legislature just voted to repeal the law, with two Republicans joining the Democrats. Even anti-abortion fanatics like Donald Trump and Kari Lake said the 1864 law went too far, although Republicans were concerned that the court's decision would draw Democrats to the polls in November to vote against them. The new law won't take effect until 90 days after the end of the current legislative session, so there may be a short period when the slave-era law takes effect on June 27.

The repeal doesn't completely legalize abortion; it only will return it to its prior state of being legal only up to 15 weeks. 60% of Arizona voters oppose this as well as the far more restrictive 1864 law. Abortion will still be an issue in November as there is a ballot measure that would protect access to the procedure.

I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but, I think it is absolutely hilarious that pro abortion does not realize that we have everything planned out. We knew who was going to go up against that law in which Republicans were going to give in

It’s OK 50 years to get Roe v. Wade overturned. First of all we’re not gonna give it up quick and it’s gonna take a hell of a lot longer than two months.. you might get the 15 week for a short time but I promise you that it’s not gonna last
@missyann I wish the gestational slavery supporters would be honest and admit that they only view women as incubators.

Either you're against killing people, or you make exceptions. Nothing will convince me that forcing women to gestate against their will is anything other than barbarism and depraved cruelty.

@missyann There is no such thing as gestational responsibility. Pregnancy is a continuous process, so consent must also be continuous and can be revoked at any time. Thinking otherwise is rapist mentality. A rapist says he's entitled to have sex with a woman because he bought her dinner and she came up to his room. Except she can do all that, and change her mind anytime. If you want to force all pregnant women to give birth because they had sex consensually, have them sign a contract in advance stipulating that.

The woman does not intentionally kill the ZEF. It's a side effect from ending the pregnancy, same as civilian deaths are a side effect of waging war. I already said that if we develop artificial wombs that can gestate the ZEF from conception forward, the argument for abortion will be weaker because the woman will be able to terminate her pregnancy without the ZEF's death.

Have you noticed that most of the new abortion restrictions exempt the woman? Shouldn't she be charged with premeditated murder? You wouldn't excuse a woman who hired a hit man to kill her adult child, so why does she suffer no penalty for, according to you, hiring a doctor to murder her child in utero? The reason is that these laws aren't moral, they're political. Plenty of nice, churchgoing pro-life women have abortions and wouldn't want to go to jail, because their abortion was "necessary" while those other sluts are just having them for convenience.

Donald Trump only opposed it because he was smart enough to recognize that it would hurt his chances of winning Arizona in the fall. Unfortunately with this law’s repeal, Trump is now back on track to win Arizona.
@JPWhoo Not really. Arizona now has a 15 week ban which is also opposed by a majority. It also doesn't help that the Republican Senate nominee is a fruitcake like Kari Lake, and the Democrat, Ruben Gallego, is a veteran who has been campaigning in Latino communities with town halls held in Spanish. Also, while the MAGA crowd views John McCain as the American Che Guevara, he's still very popular in Arizona and trashing him is not a way to win votes.

I predict Gallego wins and Arizona goes for Biden.

… and the only reason Trump and Lake said it went too far was because of the amount of blowback.
