@BigBoss that's the only game in the franchise I've put serious hours in but I've watched a lot of videos explaining the lore etc

@deadgerbil I see. If you were interested enough in the franchise to watch videos about the lore it could be worth playing other games too, although a lot of them would pale in comparison to Phantom Pain.
MGS3, however, is one of the most iconic entries (and my favorite so far, for all it's worth) and there's an HD remake set to be released this year (as far as I know) if you are interested in playing what I hope ends up being a fresh-er version of a classic.
