Bureaucracy at it's finest 馃ゲ

I got an inspection to update the energy label of my apartment today and pointed out there's a lot of draught because the window frames are cracked.

"Sadly that's not part of the calculation. Only the windows themselves count. Even if a window is broken, we have to state what kind used to be there because residents have a right to have that put back in. I've been in homes where the landlord refused to do that, so they've had a 6 ft虏 hole in their walls for months, but it still counts as being insulated with triple glass."

If homes are energy efficient on paper, that's enough to win the climate battle, right? 馃ぁ

What bullshit

They would love to see my 120 + year old log house we live in.

It has a dirtfloor for basement. Roof leaks, doors don't have seals on them, our heat is from wood and coal. Upstairs part of the house has no heat.

The only plumbing we have is a hand pump for the kitchen sink.

You wanna take bath. Well you better plan it. You have to boil water on the stove or on the fire. because the hot water heater is shot and I ain't wasting money one right now.

That just for starters

Hooty and there is one of my problems. But I also don't want to modernize. I happy living like its 75 years ago
@NerdyPotato To be fair, though, we shouldn't be making laws that take away from the comfort of people's lives - just because it's not good for the environment anymore.

We cleared the smog of London by giving people access to gas and electricity to heat their homes... yet we're clearing carbon emissions by forcing people to boil the kettle to bathe and warm themselves while huddled around inefficient Economy 7 heaters...

@HootyTheNightOwl some laws go way too far and don't consider a whole bunch of effects indeed.

I didn't have reliable heat in my apartment all winter. Very little at all. I was finally told to stop complaining, there was nothing they could do about it.
NerdyPotatoM
@hunkalove isn't heating considered a human right? If not, it should be.
hunkalove61-69, M
@NerdyPotato My understanding is that landlords are required to provide heat. I was threatened and told to shut up. The previous landlord told me not to go to the city about it. I would just be evicted. I can't even find the new landlord's name. I have lived in this apartment 15 and 1/2 years. It has become a nightmare.
NerdyPotatoM
@hunkalove every word of that sounds illegal, but they have too much power over the tenants to fight it and so it continues. Welcome to the wonders of capitalism and competitive markets. 鈽癸笍

Like when I hung a beware of dog sign on the fence to keep the hoodlums from cutting through our yard and he tried to keep my deposit saying I had a dog...it was only a dog sign.

Nonsense isn't it ?

Meaningless. No benefit to either tenant nor landlord yet somebody's getting paid for it.
NerdyPotatoM
@Picklebobble2 yay capitalism 馃コ
Perfectly sound logic at it's finest... you don't need that wall to keep your heat in anyway!!!
NerdyPotatoM
@HootyTheNightOwl when the climate heats up enough, you'll want the window open all year long anyway. The problem will solve itself. 馃憤

That's bizarre
NerdyPotatoM
@FeetAreFantastic it is... But you know how the Dutch love their creative bookkeeping when it comes to achieving government targets.
